About Us
The Georgia Retrofit Program began as a pilot program designed to provide funding assistance to help school systems in the twenty county metro Atlanta non-attainment area reduce emissions from their school bus fleets. With over 1000 school buses retrofitted to date, this program had been expanded to cover the State of Georgia. Environmental Protection Division staff continues to apply for grant funding to help school systems as well as public and private fleets retrofit their buses and fleets.
The Georgia Retrofit Program is administered through the Engines Unit of the Mobile and Area Sources Program located within the Air Protection Branch of the Georgia Environmental Protection Division. Partners include The Clean Air Campaign, The Southern Alliance of Clean Energy, Mothers and Others for Clean Air and the Southeastern Diesel Collaborative.
The Mobile and Area Sources Program evaluates and controls emissions from mobile (on-road and off-road) sources and area (small industrial) sources. The program administers the vehicle emissions inspection and maintenance program through "Georgia's Clean Air Force." The program also addresses non attainment issues through control strategies such as low sulfur gasoline, ultra low sulfur diesel, and alternative fuel vehicles. The Engines Unit of the Mobile and Area Sources Program manages the Georgia Retrofit Program.
Without partners, the Georgia Retrofit Program couldn't exist. The following partners are a huge help to this program.
The Clean Air Campaign is a nonprofit organization promoting common sense solutions.
As Georgia grows, so do its traffic congestion and air quality challenges. The Clean Air Campaign is a not-for-profit organization that works with its partners, Georgia employers, commuters and schools to encourage actions that result in reduced traffic congestion and improved air quality.
To accomplish this goal, The Clean Air Campaign and its partners offer assistance to more than 1,100 employers to design and implement commute options programs that make business sense; protect public health through the issuance of Smog Alert notifications; offer targeted incentives to commuters and employers; and work with schools to protect children from harmful pollution and empower children to take a positive role in reducing traffic and cleaning the air.
Each day, these efforts help reduce traffic by more than 1.2 million vehicle miles and keep 600 tons of pollution out of the air.
Be part of The Clean Air Campaign. And be part of the solution.
